Brussels: The Way to Our Hearts is Through Our Stomachs

Food and beer lovers, rejoice! Belgium is an epicure’s and beer enthusiast’s dream. Moules, frites, waffles, chocolate, beer, and so much more.  I seriously think I gained ten pounds in less than a week while traveling around Belgium. I just couldn’t stop eating and drinking. And I’m so glad I didn’t. As someone who plans entire trips around restaurants, markets, and cooking classes, Belgium was a dream come true for this foodie.

After spending four days in Amsterdam, we took the two hour train ride to Brussels. Side question: don’t you wish you could take a two hour anything and end up in another country with a completely different culture, language, and cuisine? Me too. Sorry, Canada, you don’t count (not that I don’t LOVE our northern neighbor, it’s just not the same).

In my opinion, Brussels is a quintessential Western European city. It has its beautiful squares, variety of museums, charming churches, numerous cafes and brasseries, perfectly manicured gardens, and famous statues and other iconic structures. It’s a wonderful city to roam around to take in the sites, along with plenty of opportunities to eat and drink to your heart’s content. It’s pretty much impossible not to fall in love with the deliciousness that is Brussels.

Mmmmmussels. And other delish fish.

And last but certainly not least, chocolate. Because chocolate is my favorite. SO much incredible chocolate just waiting to be eaten in Belgium. And T and I certainly did a good job eating a lot of it.

One of our favorite experiences in Brussels was taking a chocolate truffle making class at Zaabar. What a fun, interactive, and delicious way to spend an afternoon. Three hours of chocolate making while sampling and nibbling along the way…AND a huge assortment of truffles to take home and continue our love affair with Belgian chocolate? Yes, please.

Looks amazing. Glad you put a hold on those vegan dreams & were able to live it up in Brussels. Slighty disappointed with the lack of Mannekin Pis representation, but am looking forward to homemade truffles next time I visit.
